Albuquerque police Sgt. Adam Casaus has been charged with reckless vehicular homicide and reckless great bodily injury by vehicle, according to a criminal complaint released by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office today.

Casaus drove through a red light at the intersection of Paseo del Norte and Eagle Ranch Road NW and t-boned an SUV carrying two sisters. Ashley Browder, the 21-year-old passenger in the vehicle was killed. Lindsay Browder, her 19-year-old sister and the vehicle’s driver, was seriously injured.

The criminal complaint says that Casaus entered the intersection with the lights on top of his police SUV turned on “without slowing down.”
