BERNALILLO — A national farm-and-garden supply store being built in Bernalillo is tentatively set to open this summer.
The Tractor Supply Co. based in Brentwood, Tenn., is building a 19,097-square-foot outlet on the north side of U.S. 550 near Camino Don Tomas.
“As a growth-minded company, Tractor Supply Co. is always looking for potential new store locations that are a good fit as far as the target market is concerned,” said Rob Hoskins, who handles media relations for the company.
And Bernalillo fit that profile perfectly, he said.
“Concerning the location in Bernalillo, this is especially true in that the area was attractive due to the part-time and hobby farmers, and horse owners in the area,” Hoskins said.
The store is tentatively set for a June 29 soft opening, he said.
It’s a good sign for the town, Mayor Jack Torres said.
“It’s a positive opportunity for the town,” he said. “We’re going have a vacant lot filled with a big business. And it will be good for gross receipts.”
In addition, Torres said, it will help the local economy by employing some local workers.
The business will employ between 12 and 17 full- and part-time workers, Hoskins said.
What’s more, Torres said, the area where the store is located has several other available pads and the development of the Tractor Supply Co. may encourage other businesses to locate in Bernalillo.
“Tractor Supply Co. stores are focused on supplying the lifestyle needs of recreational farmers and ranchers,” Hoskins said. “The company also serves the maintenance needs of those who enjoy the rural lifestyle, as well as tradesmen and small businesses.”
The company also sells light truck equipment, work clothing for the entire family and an extensive line of seasonal products, including lawn and garden power-equipment products.
The company operates more than 1,150 stores in 45 states. This will be the third store recently completed in New Mexico, with one in Edgewood and one in Las Vegas.
