9 bodies found in SUV with Texas plates

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Prosecutors in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas say the bodies of nine men have been found in an SUV with Texas license plates.

The Tamaulipas state attorney general’s office says most of the victims had been dismembered.

The office said in a statement Monday the bodies were found stuffed in the vehicle, which had been left on a roadway near the state capital, Ciudad Victoria. The find was made late Sunday based on a tip.

The office did not say whether there was any evidence drug gangs were involved in the killings. Both the Zetas and the Gulf cartel operate in the area.

Imported secondhand trucks in northern Mexico frequently bear Texas license plates.
