UPDATED: Police identify dead man found in car in Northwest Albuquerque

4:10 p.m. — Police have identified the man found dead in his car on the 400 block of Fruit NW on Tuesday morning as 26-year-old Julio Apodaca.

Investigators are still determining what killed Apodaca and the circumstances behind his death. They released no other information.


The Albuquerque Police Department’s violent crimes and criminalistics units, along with the state Office of the Medical Investigator, are continuing to investigate the death of an adult male who was found unresponsive in a car on the 400 block of Fruit NW around 1 a.m. today, APD’s Officer Tasia Martinez said in a recent updated report.

The person was pronounced dead at University of New Mexico Hospital, Martinez said.

It is unknown at this time whether foul play is suspected in the man’s death.


Breaking at 5:11am — Body found in car in NW ABQ

Albuquerque police are investigating the discovery of a body found inside a car near Fruit and Arno NW around 1 a.m. today, Albuquerque Police Department spokeswoman Officer Tasia Martinez said in an emailed advisory.

The body was found in a parked car on the 400 block of Fruit NW, but no information was immediately available about the identity of the victim or the circumstances.

KOAT-TV is reporting that police are likely to be on scene for a “lengthy investigation.”
