EL PASO (AP) — Seven administrators in a West Texas school district tainted by a testing scandal have been reinstated while another is in the process of being ousted.
Trustees of the El Paso Independent School District heard from more than 100 speakers Tuesday night before retaining three principals and four assistant principals.
Board members recommended that the contract of Luis Loya not be renewed. The principal of the Center for Career and Technology Education can appeal.
Supporters of the eight administrators complained the employees weren’t told why they recently were put on leave.
An outside audit made public Monday found systematic test rigging and grade manipulation in the district. Ex-El Paso High School superintendent Lorenzo Garcia is serving more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to fraud.

EL PASO (AP) — Eight El Paso Independent School District administrators could be fired by trustees as more information becomes public in a testing and grading scandal.

An outside audit made public Monday found systematic test rigging and grade manipulation. El Paso High School superintendent Lorenzo Garcia pleaded guilty to fraud in the scandal and is serving a 3½-year federal prison sentence.
About 300 people attended a community meeting Monday night in which some speakers raised employee fairness concerns. Supporters say the educators deserve the chance to defend themselves.
