PNM begins solar project in Alamogordo

ALAMOGORDO (AP) — Public Service Co. of New Mexico had begun construction of a solar project projected to supply enough electricity to power nearly 2,500 homes.

The 70-acre project with more than 100,000 solar panels is being built near U.S. Highways 54 and 70 north of Alamogordo.

The Alamogordo Daily News reports that the Otero County Solar Energy Center is the utility’s eight solar site in New Mexico and its second in the Alamogordo area.

Crews began excavating and grading the site on Monday, and installation of solar panels will take place this summer.
