MacFarlane brings Theron and ‘Million’ to N.M.

It’s official. New Mexico is going to get funnier.

Comedian Seth MacFarlane, who is fresh off of hosting the Academy Awards, is bringing his latest project, “A Million Ways to Die in the West” to the Land of Enchantment.

The Western comedy will also star Oscar winner Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried and Sarah Silverman.

“A Million Ways to Die in the West” tells the story of a cowardly sheep farmer who backs out of a gunfight causing his fickle girlfriend to leave him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

Production will begin filming in early May and run through July. Filming sites include Jemez Pueblo, Shiprock, Bonanza Creek Ranch and Chama.

According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production will employ more 1,200 New Mexico crew members, more than 2,000 New Mexico background talent and approximately 20 New Mexico principal actors.

MacFarlane will serve as director, producer and co-writer of the film. MacFarlane is known for his animated TV show hits, “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show.” He also directed the comedy hit “Ted.”

Oscar winner Theron appeared in the 2012 films “Prometheus” and “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Seyfried was part of the ensemble cast in “Les Miserables.”

According to the Internet Movie Database, Liam Neeson and Giovani Ribisi are also attached to the project.
