A 20-year-old Las Cruces man suspected of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl has been arrested and is being held on four felony charges, Las Cruces police said in a news release.
Taylor Ascarate was arrested Tuesday and is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash-only bond, charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor and three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual penetration, the release said.
Detectives said Ascarate met the girl in July 2012 at Unidad Park when she was only 12 and that the two engaged in sex once before she turned 13 and three times since then, according to the release.
Police also said Ascarate was aware of the girl’s age from the time they first met.
According to police, the girl ended the relationship last October but only recently told her parents after Taylor allegedly threatened her.
