Adam Estrada grew up in northeast New Mexico, graduated from Clayton High School, has worked with the Clovis school district since 2002 and was named superintendent of the Cimarron school district at a special school board meeting last Saturday, The Raton Range reported.
Estrada was one of five finalists interviewed for the job last Saturday, and Cimarron school board president Valorie Garcia told The Range that Estrada’s enthusiasm impressed the board.
The other finalists were Duane Denny, superintendent of Primero, Colo., schools; Gary Miller, current principal of Clayton High School; Kathy Garden, principal of Maggie Cordova Elementary School in Rio Rancho; and Jeff Bolinger, superintendent of Kiowa County Schools in Sheridan Lake, Colo.
A sixth finalist, Greg Rockhold of Shiprock, had been scheduled to interview but was unable to attend, The Range said.
Two other candidates, Ray Arsenault of Gallup and Lillian Torres of Cuba, N.M., had been named as finalists but declined interviews, according to The Range.
Estrada’s contract begins on July 1 and calls for a $90,000 annual salary, Garcia told the paper.
