State Police deactivate bomb found underwater in Blue Hole

A visitor to the Blue Hole near Santa Rosa found what looked like an explosive device in the water and called authorities around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday.

All visitors and employees were evacuated, and the State Police bomb team examined the device. The device was in fact explosive, police said, but team members rendered it safe without injury or property damage.

Now a State Police dive team is doing an underwater safety sweep, and a police dog is sniffing around the nearby park to see if other bombs are nearby.

Anyone who may have tips regarding this explosive device is asked to contact the State Police Bomb Team at 505-841-9256.
