Two Injured in Wednesday Shootings in Santa Fe

Two people were shot in Santa Fe Wednesday, but the incidents do not appear to be related, according to Santa Fe Police.

The latest shooting occurred at about 8:33 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Celina Westervelt.

Westervelt said a 23-year-old man was in the parking lot by the Pizza Hut and Smith’s Food and Drug Store on St. Michael’s Drive, walking with groceries and a relative toward their black Mitsubishi Eclipse.

The victim was holding the groceries when he was shot in the left leg, fracturing it, Westervelt said.

He was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and has since been released.

The man and his relative did not see who fired the shot and said they did not know why someone would want to attack the man. Employees in the area did not witness the shooting.

Police are trying to obtain surveillance footage of the parking lot in an attempt to learn more.

Meanwhile, a woman shot in the back Wednesday is still in Christus St. Vincent’s.

A drive-by shooting around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, accoridng to Westervelt, resulted in a single gunshot wound to a 35-year-old woman inside of her Montana Verde Road home.

Westervelt did not know the extent of the woman’s injuries.

Police were looking for three men inside a white Nissan Xterra who were seen in the area at the time.

Police do not know whether either victim were the intended target of the shooters.
