Hours extended for NM’s unemployment claims system

Jobless New Mexicans now have more options for when they log into the state’s new unemployment insurance claims system.

Labor officials announced this week that the system will be accessible Sunday through Friday from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. for about 23,000 claimants and 45,000 employers across the state.

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions says that every week, nearly half of all the claims filed and 70 percent of certifications for benefits are filed via the online system.

Officials have been monitoring the percentage of employers and individuals who have been accessing system since it was launched three months ago.

Secretary Celina Bussey says extending the hours means more opportunities for those who need to view their accounts, update information or check the status of claims.
