Landscapes are her passion

Work by Sandoval County bureau of elections staffer Evangeline Chavez will be among the photographers features at the InSight Women’s Photography Exhibit opening today at Expo New Mexico.

Chavez has been interested in photography since childhood, doing both color and black-and-white work. Landscapes and sites of cultural interest are her passion.

“I love traveling the back roads,” Chavez said.

She takes photos for the Sandoval County tourism department. Her photos have also appeared in the Centennial Blue Book of New Mexico and “A Year or So in the Life of New Mexico,”a book by retired photo journalist Rick Carver that included contributions from dozens of photographers throughout the state.

The book was a fundraising project for the Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families.

An opening reception for the InSight exhibit will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Fine Arts Building at Expo New Mexico. The show will be open daily except Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until April 27.
