Fourth-driest start to an Albuquerque “water year”

The National Weather Service recorded just 0.75 inch (1.9 cm) of rain in the first six months of the “water year”. That is the fourth driest since record-keeping began more than a century ago, according to Deirdre Kann, science officer at the NWS Albuquerque office. Here’s the dubious list we’re currently climbing up:

  1. 1905-06: 0.30
  2. 1995-96: 0.58
  3. 1927-28: 0.69
  4. 2012-13: 0.75

Not all of New Mexico is in such near-record territory, though, with Clayton not even in the 20 driest and Roswell at number 12, according to Kann. (You’ll often read about Clayton and Roswell in these weather number items because it’s two places with good long term records.)
