A Corrales woman has pleaded guilty to stabbing a disabled Rio Rancho man to death in 2007.
In a plea agreement filed in district court Tuesday, Debbie Gonzales, 49 at the time of the slaying, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, a third-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a fourth-degree felony, in the fatal stabbing of Jeffery Packer, 47, of Rio Rancho.
She faces a 7 1/2-year prison sentence and restitution payments as determined by Adult Probation and Parole.
According to a 2007 Albuquerque Journal article, Gonzales told police she and Packer fought when she confronted him about a woman she saw running from his home. She said Packer threw her to the ground and she grabbed a kitchen knife and began stabbing him.
Gonzales told police she left, drove to Albuquerque and threw the knife out the window of her car.
Gonzales did odd jobs for Packer, who had problems walking and seeing, as well as with his kidneys, according to the Journal.
