I am tired of being the goat for the mess this country is in financially! I am tired of hearing that we need to take a cut in our limited income because we don’t want to pass this debt on to our grandchildren, like it is all our fault! The idiots making these comments are just trying to make the old folks feel guilty!
Maybe Grandpa did not have a high-paying job where he was able to put big bucks in the bank for retirement. But he did have a job, and was able to buy a home and pay his bills. The company told Grandpa that although his paycheck was not huge, the company benefits would take care of his retirement and health care in his old age, and with the added benefit of Social Security that he also paid for through payroll deductions things looked good.
So he was not able to save a lot, but the benefits that he was paying for looked good enough.
Then came the golden years, and the company that Grandpa worked for said, “Gee, we are sorry, but health care has become so expensive that we can’t provide it for you as promised, so you will need to pay for it out of your retirement check!”
Now, Grandpa’s retirement check does not look so good anymore.
Then the federal government said, “Gee, we are sorry, but you aren’t entitled to that Social Security check that you paid for all those years because we need the money to pay off the debt that we created by paying for senseless wars and giving aid to all the other countries so they won’t hate us, and we need to pay lucrative benefits to all our politicians for the rest of their lives because they spent four years in office doing nothing! And by the way, we raided the Social Security Trust Fund, so there is nothing left for you there, either.”
Now Grandpa doesn’t have enough money to pay the rising utility bills and rising fuel costs that the greedy companies inflate to get bonuses and pay dividends to their rich shareholders!
And then the local government said, “Gee, we need to raise your property taxes a few hundred dollars each year so we can subsidize the building of private hospitals and give our government employees salary increases and health benefits and great retirement packages each year. And we need more money to build schools that look like Taj Mahals with food courts that put the shopping malls to shame and huge stadiums and arenas to play sports!”
And now Grandpa’s property tax bill is more than what his mortgage payment use to be!
Maybe Grandpa could get food stamps, but wait, he has a retirement check and Social Security income, so he doesn’t qualify!
So what’s Grandpa supposed to do? Maybe move in with his grandkids?
Maybe the grandkids would be better off with the debt than having grouchy old Grandpa living with them.
Or maybe the government could cut spending someplace else and leave us “old folks” alone!
By the way, I love my grandkids!
