Body found near railroad tracks in Grants

The body of a middle-aged man was found Friday afternoon on the south side of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks near San Jose Drive in Grants, the Cibola Beacon reported.

Police are investigating the death as suspicious and unattended, and the man’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Grants police detective Cpl. Moses Marquez told the Beacon.

Marquez said there appeared to be signs of trauma but the cause of death remains under investigation by the state Office of the Medical Investigator.

Cibola County Regional Dispatch was called around 2 p.m. Friday after a group of transients reportedly found the dead man, Marquez told the paper.
