Crash, car fire on EB I-40 past river

8:38am UPDATE: Crashes on eastbound Interstate 40 at Rio Grande and on eastbound Paseo del Norte at Jefferson have been cleared, and all lanes have reopened to traffic, KKOB’s Joe Gonzales is reporting.

It’s still slow going for eastbound traffic on Alameda, where it was taking up to 40 minutes to cross the river earlier this morning, Gonzales said.

Albuquerque police and emergency personnel are responding to a crash on eastbound Interstate 40 east of Coors involving a vehicle that is reported to be on fire, APD spokeswoman Tasia Martinez said in an emailed advisory.

At least one eastbound lane on I-40 is closed, and drivers are urged to seek an alternate route while crews respond to the situation, police said.

According to KKOB’s Joe Gonzales, the crash occurred on eastbound I-40 just past the river and is blocking the left and center lanes.

Elsewhere, a crash has blocked the left lane of eastbound Paseo del Norte approaching Jefferson, according to KKOB and KOB-FM.

It’s taking about 40 minutes to get across the river on Paseo on Alameda, according to KKOB’s Gonzales.
