What started out as sprinkles on the West Side turned into a full-blown downpour as we neared Journal Center on the drive in this morning.
That unfamiliar wet stuff is making the pavement a little slick, so be careful on this morning’s commute.
The National Weather Service is reporting scattered showers with isolated thunder spreading north up the Rio Grande valley and nearby highlands and mountains ahead of an approaching upper-level storm system before 6 this morning.
Rain is falling below the 7,000-foot altitude and some snow above, according to the short term forecast.
The scattered showers are being forecast for Belen, Los Lunas, Albuquerque, Grants, Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, Sandia Park, Tijeras and Santa Fe.
The weather service is warning motorists to watch for “minor travel impacts.”
There was mixed snow and rain to our west, where the temperatures were sharply cooler overnight, and KOAT-TV’s Eric Green is reporting snow on the ground in Gallup.
It’s 49 degrees in the Albuquerque metro area right now, but the forecasters are expecting a high of just 54 today, some thunderstorms overnight, more showers Tuesday morning and a high tomorrow of just 52.
