Racing industry mind-set off-track

THE BEAUTIFUL race horses of New Mexico should now be subjected to less performance enhancing drugs, thanks to our Legislature, Gov. Susana Martinez, the State Racing Commission — and especially the concerned citizens of New Mexico.

Cheers (and neighs!) to all.

One wonders, however, about the overall attitude of the horse racing industry that necessitated such legislation and about their continuing disrespect for the animals that form the core of their industry.

Something very basic is wrong here. How does one address inhumanity in the hearts of those in positions of power?

Until that question is answered, the abuses of the horses — and all animals — will persist.
