DWI

DWI Resource Center: Get involved: The Citizen Action Center for the DWI Resource Center in Albuquerque shows how you can make a difference in fight against drunken driving.
DWI arrest data: Check here for statistics on your local law enforcement agencies.
Get MADD: Link to the New Mexico chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Courts: Data on disposition, including dismissals, of DWI cases.

Politics

New Mexico: Political donations, lobbyist and political action committee registrations and more.
Federal: Search for campaign contributions, financial disclosures by members of Congress, lobbyist registrations and more.
All States: Contributions nationwide to candidates for state office.
Voters: Search registrations, but must know date of birth of voter.

Government

ABQView: City of Albuquerque’s project for open government and transparency.
BernCo View: Bernalillo County transparency website intended to make it easier to find contracts, budgets, audits, salaries and other information.
Campaign Finance: Database for campaign-finance system operated by the Secretary of State’s Office.
Contracts: Database for contracts in excess of $20,000 entered with the State of New Mexico.
Salaries: Database of exempt N.M. state employee salaries
State Legislature: Search for legislation by topic, track bills and see what measures introduced by each lawmaker.
Audits: Search for audits of state and local government agencies.
Local Governments: Links to city and county Web sites, including assessors and treasurers for property tax information and clerk offices for property transfers and other filings, including tax liens and voter registrations. Site also includes link to state government sites.

Courts

State District and magistrate courts: Search for criminal and civil cases by party name or case number. Includes DWI arrests and information on appeals.
Bernalillo County: Searchable database for Bernalillo County Metro Court.
Municipal Courts: Link to city sites to check for online municipal court databases. Caution: Most municipal courts don’t have websites, meaning you may have to visit in person.

Business Records

Nonprofits: Search for tax returns, known as 990s, filed by nonprofit groups, including rural electric cooperatives. Returns include compensation for key employees, directors. (Nonprofits must provide tax returns upon request.)
Company registrations: Search database by name of company or director.
SEC Filings: Search by company name or ticker symbol for quarterly and annual reports. Don’t miss “DEF” reports for information on executive pay.
Brokers: Search backgrounds of securities brokers and brokerage firms.

Professional Licensing

Complaints and discipline: Links to the state regulating agencies for bars, contractors, securities dealers, real estate brokers and more.
Doctors: Search database for disciplinary actions.

Aviation

Track: Monitor aircraft flights, including those of the state jet (tail No. N47NM).
Registrations: Search by name of aircraft owner or tail number.

General

Google: Perhaps the most valuable investigative tool.
Phones: A business and residential directory that also features a reverse directory, allowing users to search for listings by telephone number.
Newspapers: Some New Mexico papers have searchable archives.
Journalist’s Toolbox: Thousands of resources and links on wide range of topics put together by Society of Professional Journalists.
