Fan Leaves $1.1 Million to UNM Athletics

Associated Press
The estate of a longtime fan has donated an unrestricted gift worth more than $1.1 million to the University of New Mexico's athletics department.
Omar Heins died at age 96 on Jan. 17. His gift to UNM was one of five major donations set up through his estate planning.
"We are very grateful for the support Mr. Heins gave Lobo athletics for the many years he was an active member of the Lobo Club and a season ticket holder," New Mexico athletics director Paul Krebs said.
"His generosity continues through his estate and it will have a tremendous impact on Lobo athletics for years to come," Krebs said.
Heins, an electrical engineer and World War II veteran, retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1974.
