Former prison guard Anthony Townes maintained his innocence to the end — an end that came not long after the clock struck noon Friday when state District Judge Ross Sanchez handed Townes a multiyear sentence for raping four female inmates at the Camino Nuevo prison in 2007.

Group Urges Fewer Pap Tests
On the heels of a controversial study that suggested new guidelines for mammograms, another national group came out Friday with new guidelines developed by a University of New Mexico professor for when a woman should get a Pap test.

Revenues Down at 2009 State Fair
Despite a slight increase in attendance, the 2009 New Mexico State Fair saw a dip in revenues, due largely to a drop in paid attendance and an increase in the number of fairgoers who got in for free, fair officials said Friday.
