Robust Exchange of Views

It was standing room only at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 401 on Girard SE in Albuquerque on Tuesday, and the crowd was, in a word, vocal.
People showed up in droves to support and oppose government spending, health care legislation and other hot topics coming out of Washington, D.C., during a town hall meeting hosted by Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M.
Eventually, state Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John Garcia had to ask people to settle down and allow those with other viewpoints to speak.
"This is what democracy's all about," Udall said later. "I had the opportunity to hear a lot of New Mexicans' views on a variety of issues, and I really appreciate that so many came out. They obviously care a lot about the issues we discussed today, and listening to their concerns helps me do my job in Washington."
