Car Trouble? Chrysler Says Take It to Zangara

By Rivkela Brodsky
Journal Staff Writer
Apparently Chrysler didn't get the memo that Zangara Dodge in Albuquerque closed its doors back in February.
After cutting ties with 789 dealerships nationwide last month, the company sent a letter to New Mexico customers stating Chrysler LLC "has successfully emerged from our restructuring as a vibrant new car company," reminding them Quality Jeep Chrysler is no longer an authorized dealer in Albuquerque.
But it listed Zangara Dodge as one of "a number of excellent authorized dealerships in your area" along with Melloy Dodge, Casa Chrysler Jeep and Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Santa Fe. Estancia resident Robert Adams received the letter and has been calling the Chrysler customer service number listed to inform the company Zangara Dodge is no longer in business.
So far, he said, they don't believe him.
"They still thought Zangara was in business," he said. "They said they had so many independent dealers and relied on them to contact them if there was trouble, and we all know in this day and age no one is going to do that."
Cathy Graham, a spokeswoman for Chrysler, told the Journal it was "a human error that Zangara got on the list."
She said the company is aware Zangara went out of business, but that it does still have an active dealer agreement with Chrysler.
Adams, a former Quality Chrysler Jeep customer, said the letter showed "Chrysler LLC is just out of touch."
"I think (the company) should have some method of determining that a dealership has gone out of business or disappeared," he said. "But so far they haven't acknowledged that would be a good business practice."
