Man Accused of Soliciting Sex From Girl

By Rozanna M. Martinez
Journal Staff Writer
A computer technician at a Rio Rancho high school was arrested last week after he allegedly tried to arrange to have sex with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl.
Chad Richardson, 30, is charged with child solicitation by electronic communication device.
Richardson, who worked for V. Sue Cleveland High School, was placed on administrative leave Oct. 30 as a result of his arrest, district spokeswoman Kim Vesely said.
There is no indication that the matter involved students from the district, she said.
Richardson has since been issued a "notice of termination," meaning the district intends to terminate his employment, Vesely said.
Richardson was with the district for five years, working at Rio Rancho High School and moving to V. Sue Cleveland High School this past fall, Vesely said.
According to a search warrant affidavit, Richardson posted an ad to Craigslist on Oct. 24 requesting young girls to have sex with. The ad used explicit language and caught the attention of an undercover State Police agent.
The agent responded to the ad and pretended to be a 12-year-old girl. Richardson replied by saying "I like girls your age," according to the affidavit.
The agent had several conversations with Richardson through an Internet chat service. Richardson described what he wanted to do with the girl sexually and also sent explicit images of himself, according to the affidavit.
Richardson asked if he could meet the girl for a sexual encounter on Oct. 29 at a dog park in west Albuquerque. Once he arrived, State Police officers detained him.
