The body of a Corrales woman missing for two months was found Saturday in a Socorro County camping and hiking spot, according to the Los Lunas Police Department.
Sandra Sanchez, 43, was last seen April 3 in Los Lunas when she went to visit an ex-boyfriend.
Her body was found near Water Canyon, and State and Los Lunas police worked throughout the night to search the area for evidence. Her body has been taken to Albuquerque's Office of the Medical Investigator for an autopsy, according to a news release.
Sanchez's family declined to comment Sunday, but relatives previously said they became worried after Sanchez missed her granddaughter's birthday and Easter, which they said was out of character.
"My mom is a spiritual person," Sanchez's daughter Amber Sanchez said in April. "She can just light up a room. She is a people person. Her kids are her world."
Sanchez had two daughters and a son.
She petitioned for a protective order last year against Joe Easley, the ex-boyfriend she was visiting in Los Lunas when she was last seen. According to the petition, Sanchez and Easley were in a relationship for 7 1/2 years and lived together for about five years.
Easley denies the allegations in the petition, which states that he punched Sanchez in the chest, put knives to her throat, dragged her by her hair and tied her to a bed so she could not leave.
Easley told the Journal in April that he was worried about Sanchez and had been cooperating with police. Easley said that he and Sanchez had been broken up for about two years but stayed in regular contact and she went to visit him the night of April 3 to see his new home in Los Lunas.
