Lost Blackberry 'Snitches' on Suspect

By T.J. Wilham
Journal Staff Writer
Police say Joseph Jordan's Blackberry told on him.
Jordan, 23, also known as Goofy, was arrested after police found his lost Blackberry and discovered eight photos in the cell phone of him holding a gun, according to court records.
Jordan, a convicted felon and known gang member, is not supposed to carry firearms under state and federal laws.
He now faces a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a felon. He was in custody late Tuesday at the Metropolitan Detention Center in lieu of a $75,000 cash bond.
According to a Metropolitan Court criminal complaint, a security guard at Sandia Vista Apartments on the 900 block of Tramway NE called police Oct. 7 to report that he had found a Blackberry.
The guard was going through the cell phone in an attempt to figure out who it belonged to when he saw a photo of a man holding two handguns and wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat.
Police said the hat is commonly worn by a local gang.
When detectives saw the picture, they recognized Jordan as a known gang member.
According to court records, Jordan was convicted in 2006 for shooting from or into a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. He was sentenced to 18 months' probation — which he had violated at least twice before, according to court records.
After they retrieved the cell phone, police obtained a search warrant to allow them to examine everything in the Blackberry. Police then found several other photos of Jordan holding guns. All were time-stamped after he was convicted on the felony charge.
Police also found photos of drugs and large amounts of money, according to court records.
Police took Jordan into custody on Monday.
