          LEDs To Illuminate State Streets
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation will start replacing incandescent lighting at intersections throughout the state with LEDs to save money and energy.
The department says the work will begin today. About 380 intersections will be upgraded with the new lighting.
The Transportation Department signed a contract with the state Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department to do the work. EMNRD got $5 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the project.
State officials say that, in addition to saving money and energy, the new bulbs will last longer and provide better visibility.
        Artist Neiman Honored by State
SANTA FE — Gov. Bill Richardson has declared June "LeRoy Neiman Exhibition Month," in honor of the contemporary artist.
Neiman is best known for his colorful and energetic paintings of sporting events, as well as portraits of such luminaries as Muhammad Ali, the Beatles, Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra. More than 60 of his paintings will be on display through Sept. 13 at the Hubbard Museum of the American West in Ruidoso Downs.
Richardson says New Mexico is honored to showcase Neiman's work.
