VICTIMS' STORIES Jason Evans: "There are a lot of low-lifes and scumbags out there"

By T.J. Wilham/
Journal Staff Writer
Jason Evans depends on having a nice well-kept home.
Evans owns a small adobe house near Old Town and rents it out on a weekly or daily basis to tourists looking to explore the Land of Enchantment.
Last April, while he was between customers and making small repairs, thieves kicked a back door and stole $930 in rugs and kitchenware.
When officers took a report, Evans said they were surprised.
"They acted like they have never seen a burglary in this part of Albuquerque," he said. "It's just frightening that it can happen anywhere."
Since the break-in, Evans has purchased a security alarm.
He plans to rent out the home again once he is done with his remodeling.
Police, who responded within 16 minutes, have yet to recover any of the stolen items, nor have they caught the burglars.
"There are a lot of low-lifes and scumbags out there," Evans said. "For some reason they just don't want to work for a living."
