APS Web Site Gets a Makeover

Lesley Molecke, Web editor for Albuquerque Public Schools, doesn't have much good to say about the district's former Web site.
"I think anyone who visited the old site looked at it and went, 'Oh, gosh,' " she said Monday.
The revamped APS Web site, www.aps.edu, went live Monday, with an official launch set today.
It's been more than two years in the making, said Tom Ryan, the district's executive director of technology. But he said the real push started when Superintendent Winston Brooks came in and made it a priority.
The public also wanted a better Web site, APS spokeswoman Monica Armenta said.
The district hired Molecke in September to help design the site, at a cost so far of $58,000. The project has a total budget of $151,000, which will include future phases to upgrade individual school Web sites as well as the district's Intranet.
"We wanted to make sure the site actually spoke to and addressed our audience ..." she said. "We wanted to make sure it was modern, and that you could search and actually find results."
She said another key update is that the site is user-friendly for teachers and other APS staff members, which will encourage them to use it and to keep the content fresh.
Among the features: online forms that parents can fill out and send electronically, a guide to the district's school boundaries and easy links to every school.
