Friends of the woman killed in a shooting at Denny's this weekend say she was a "bright spirit" who could make anybody's day better.
Husband and wife Jessie and Diane Negrette worked with the victim, Stephanie Anderson, at the Standard Diner on Central. Jessie Negrette, who still works at the diner as a dishwasher, said two of Anderson's greatest loves were the San Francisco 49ers and her dog Oreo.
"She was a very bright spirit," he said. "She could walk into a place and light it up. She was just awesome." Jessie Negrette said the last time he saw the 34-year-old Anderson was a few months ago coming out of a local tattoo shop. He said as usual, Anderson was upbeat.
"She was a happy-go-lucky person," he said. "If you wanted your day to go better, all you had to do was talk to her."
According to her Facebook page, Anderson was the eldest of eight children and liked to paint and draw in her spare time. Her page features several of her mandala art pieces. Other interests included mountain biking and reading.
Anderson graduated from West Mesa High in 1993 and attended Apollo College from 2005 to 2006 in Tucson to become a pharmacy technician, according to her MySpace page. She also attended the Central New Mexico Community College at various times. Jessie Negrette said Anderson's ultimate dream was to work in a pharmacy. He said she talked about that a lot.
"She was really happy about getting her job at Denny's," he said. "She said it was going to help her pay for school so she could work in a pharmacy."
According to her resume on linked.com, Anderson worked at Standard Diner from March 2006 until September 2007. She began working at Denny's in March 2008 and liked being a cook, Jessie Negrette said. Anderson also worked as a pantry chef at Sunshine Cafe and Rolling in the Dough Bakery.
Diane Negrette said Anderson was the best part of her day and she looked forward to going to work to see her.
"She was just a lot of fun," she said. "We never had any cross words and she always made me laugh and smile. I can't believe she is gone."
