APS Board OKs Calendar for 2009-1010 School Year

By Journal Staff Report

The Albuquerque school board adopted a calendar Tuesday for the 2009-2010 school year that includes joint time off with the University of New Mexico for spring break. The first day of school is Aug. 17; the last day is May 28.
    The schedule includes:

  • Fall break: Oct. 9.

  • Thanksgiving holiday: Nov. 25-27.

  • Winter break: Dec. 21-Jan. 1.

  • Spring Break: March 15-19.

  • Vernal holiday: April 2.

The week of June 2-5 would be reserved for snow days.

UNM staff members at Tuesday board's meeting said they had been working for years to align the two spring breaks together, adding that they will now focus on trying to get UNM to follow the APS snow days and start day of winter break.
