Teen in Hospital After School Fight

A Cibola High School student was hospitalized Wednesday after a fight with another teen that started in the school cafeteria and spilled outdoors, where 20 to 30 other students stood by and watched.
The injured girl was apparently having seizures and losses of consciousness before she was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital, where she was in stable condition Wednesday evening.
She suffered facial fractures, bruises and cuts.
Albuquerque police spokesman Rob Gibbs said it's not believed that weapons were involved.
Gibbs said that the two girls had "an exchange of words" in the cafeteria at some point during the day and that the physical fight started about 4 p.m. at a park just north of the campus.
There, Gibbs said, the fight drew crowds of "between 20 to 30 kids watching." Passersby and neighbors called 911.
It was over by the time police arrived, he said, but one of the girls was having seizures and was in and out of consciousness.
Gibbs said police believe there is a strong possibility that video might have been taken of the fight that could end up on the Internet.
Police were interviewing the other girl, he said, and will also question the hospitalized student.
Cibola High School Principal Elena Salazar said the fight took place off the school campus and that she was waiting on the police to complete their investigation to find out what occurred.
She would not comment further.
