    Snapshots

    * Sausage prices have been forced up because producers have had to import most of their beef from the West. Customs duties and value-added taxes can add 20 percent to 30 percent to the cost of imported beef.

    * Russia's wheat harvest of 52 million metric tons was the lowest in memory.

    * Many of the collective farms around Moscow have gone bankrupt as government subsidies dropped or were eliminated.
