Mail Taken From Postal Vehicle
Residents of a Northeast Heights neighborhood might not get their mail after a U.S. Postal Service delivery vehicle was broken into on Thursday.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said a letter carrier was delivering mail around noon Thursday when the vehicle was broken into.
Upon returning to the vehicle, which was parked on the 1400 block of Rhode Island NE, the carrier found a broken window. The remainder of undelivered mail was stolen, officials said.
Authorities did not know how much mail was stolen.
There were also no suspects as of Thursday afternoon, but one witness reported seeing a spotted a brown or dark brown SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, near the USPS vehicle.
Affected residents will be notified by mail.

Victim of Fatal Shooting ID'd
The victim of a fatal shooting Saturday in the 2300 block of Iron Gate Trail SW has been identified by the Office of Medical Investigator as Corin Anthony Chiquito, 16, according to police.
Jose Roybal, 18, has been arrested and charged with an open count of murder in connection with the shooting.
Police said witnesses reported a fight involving six to eight men at a party in the area and a shooting that broke out between two groups.
Roybal allegedly fired into the street, killing Chiquito.
Roybal was being held Thursday at the Metropolitan Detention Center in lieu of a $200,000 cash-only bond.
Six Apply for Judge Position
Six attorneys have applied for the civil division judgeship in the 2nd Judicial District Court. The vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Geraldine Rivera.
The applicants are C. Shannon Bacon, Stephen P. Curtis, Jane Laflin, Lori L. Millet, Metro Court Judge Frank Sedillo and Daniel P. Ulibarri.
The Judicial Nominating Commission will meet at 9 a.m. today in the ceremonial courtroom, Room 338, to interview applicants and make recommendations to the governor. The meeting is open to the public. Those wishing to speak are asked to be present at the start of the session.
Man Guilty in Stabbing Death
A 47-year-old man has been convicted in the 2009 Valentine's Day killing of his roommate at their Rio Rancho home.
A Sandoval County jury found Francisco Castillo guilty March 5 of second-degree murder after a weeklong trial. Castillo will be sentenced at a later date and faces up to 15 years in jail, 13th Judicial District Attorney Lemuel Martinez said.
Castillo was found guilty of killing his roommate, Douglas Robbins, 35, at their Rio Rancho home in the 6900 block of Concord Hills.
Robbins was stabbed numerous times after an argument with Castillo, according to a statement of probable cause. Robbins died from his injuries.
During the trial, the defense claimed Castillo had been battered by Robbins over a period of time.
Sex Offender Gets 30 Years
A convicted sex offender from Bernalillo was sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting two girls.
As part of a plea agreement, Thomas Atencio, 47, previously pleaded no contest to several counts, including two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor between 13 and 16 years old, as well as giving alcohol to a minor.
According to the indictment, Atencio assaulted one of the girls on Oct. 3 and Oct. 31, 2008, and both girls on Nov. 29, 2008.
A 13-year-old girl told police the next day that she had been sexually assaulted by a man, later identified as Atencio, who had given her alcohol.
Another girl later said she also had been sexually assaulted the same night by Atencio, according to police.
Atencio is a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 2004 of criminal sexual contact of a minor in Bernalillo, according to the State Police sex offender Web site.
N.M. Physicist To Be Honored
Nobel-winning physicist and New Mexico resident Murray Gell-Mann will be honored March 20 with the 2010 National Award of Nuclear Science and History.
Gell-Mann, one of the founders of the Santa Fe Institute, won the Nobel for his work on the nature of elementary particles.
He will be honored at the New Mexico Museum of Science and History's Einstein Society Gala, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Albuquerque Sheraton Uptown. Tickets, which cost $125 each, can be purchased on line at the museum's Web site, www.nuclearmuseum.org/store-home.
