Cliff's Break-In, Thefts Lead to Four Arrests
It was the stuffed animals at Cliff's Amusement Park that enticed a pair of 20-year-old cousins into burglary.
Joie Baca and Desiree Baca broke into the amusement park with friends Carl Story and Nigel Gatwood on Saturday night and took stuffed animals and candy, according to a criminal complaint.
The cousins said they had entered the amusement park with the sole intent of touring the property, according to the complaint. Both women claimed the theft was a spur-of-the moment decision.
When the officers searched the cars belonging to Desiree Baca and Gatwood they recovered numerous stuffed animals and a box containing items from the concession stand, according to the complaint.
Story and Joie Baca reportedly told police it was the second time they had broken into the amusement park. They took two hats, a sweater and candy the first time, according to the complaint.
The complaint did not give a dollar amount for the merchandise. All four have all been charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit a fourth-degree felony.
Young Bear Captured And Relocated to Gila
LAS CRUCES — New Mexico officials captured and released a bear after it was spotted with a sheep it had just killed in the yard of a Doña Ana County farming community.
Lita Tafoya found the 160-pound bear in her backyard after it had made the kill Thursday evening.
State Department of Game and Fish officials tracked the bear near an elementary school and to Interstate 25; they set a trap for it at Tafoya's home.
The bear returned Friday and was lured to the trap by the scent of sheep meat, honey and berries.
Ray Aaltonen, district wildlife supervisor of the Game and Fish department, says the young male black bear was taken to the heart of the Gila National Forest by Saturday afternoon.
