Justices Set Veto Suit Hearing
SANTA FE — The state Supreme Court will hear arguments next month from lawyers in a dispute over vetoes by Republican Gov. Susana Martinez.
The court scheduled a hearing for June 22 in two lawsuits by Democratic lawmakers. It's possible the court will issue a ruling that day.
Legislators sued Wednesday, asking the court to overturn two line-item vetoes by the governor this year.
The lawmakers contend the governor exceeded her powers.
One veto rejected a $128 million tax increase on businesses in a measure to keep the state's unemployment compensation fund from running out of money next year.
The other disputed veto reduced an appropriation in a budget bill from $150,000 to $50,000 for an agency that finances low-income housing.
The governor maintains she acted properly with her vetoes.

Crowds, Winds Likely at Lake
Big crowds are expected to pack Elephant Butte Lake State Park during Memorial Day weekend.
The park superintendent told the Las Cruces Sun-News more than 80,000 people are expected to take in the sun and fun on the lake.
The Bureau of Land Management said water levels on the lake are expected to be at an elevation of 4,300 feet — the fourth-lowest in 20 years.
It's still about 100 feet deep in the center of the lake, and officials say that's plenty deep for boating.
The National Weather Service said winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected at Elephant Butte today through Sunday. Gusts could reach 44 mph Saturday and 48 mph Sunday, the weather service said.

Gila Campgrounds Reopening
SILVER CITY — The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument and the Gila National Forest campgrounds are reopening for the Memorial Day weekend.
The recreation areas have been close since May 7 because of the nearby Miller Fire, which has burned more 84,000 acres.
Ranger Al Koss said the cliff dwellings, the Gila Visitor Center, T.J. and Woody's Corrals and the campgrounds will reopen this morning.
Over the past few days, Koss said, firefighters have been focused on making sure the recreation areas were cleaned up, safe and ready for visitors.
He said visitors are asked to exercise extreme caution, because fire danger remains high and fire restrictions are in effect.

Principal Charged With Assault
The Osuna Elementary School principal was arrested on domestic violence charges Thursday after an incident involving her husband, also an APS principal, over an alleged affair.
KOAT-TV first reported Rebecca Robertson, 38, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault against a household member.
According to a criminal complaint, Robertson is married to Sandia High School Principal Mike Robertson, who allegedly had an extramarital affair with a secretary at Sandia, the complaint states. The secretary told police Rebecca Robertson began harassing her, sending threatening messages and drove to her house to confront her Tuesday.
The secretary told police Rebecca Robertson showed up to her house Tuesday just as Mike Robertson was leaving, causing a commotion and alledgedly trying to run him down with her minivan.
