Eighth-Graders Suspended After Allegedly Showing Up Drunk

By Jack King
Journal Staff Writer
Two eighth-grade girls at Jackson Middle School, 10600 Indian School Rd. NE, have been suspended after allegedly showing up drunk to their first-period class this morning.
Albuquerque Public Schools spokesman Rigo Chavez said the girls, a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old, reportedly smelled of alcohol and acted erratically when they arrived in the class around 8:15 a.m. today.
The girls were taken to the school nurse, who referred them to an Albuquerque Police Department resource officer stationed at the school.
Chavez said the girls have been suspended, pending a conference with their parents, and could receive a long-term suspension lasting from three to 10 days.
