Alamogordo Man Gets Life for Beating Baby

Associated Press

ALAMOGORDO — An Alamogordo man convicted of brutally beating his 5-week-old daughter has been sentenced to life plus 13 1/2 years in prison.
Judge James Waylon Counts has sentenced 28-year-old Larry Pone, who was convicted of first-degree child abuse in the death of his daughter, Merissa Kishbaugh.
The baby died from massive injuries at an El Paso, Texas, hospital in November 2006.
Janice Schryer, who represented the state, says the trouble started when the baby slipped in a bathtub and then was thrown across a room and had her head banged against a door frame.
Schryer says the autopsy of the infant revealed retinal hemorrhages in both eyes, a depressed skull fracture and blunt force trauma.
