May Shows Bright Spot for Home Sales in Las Cruces

Associated Press
LAS CRUCES — Real estate experts in the Las Cruces-area feel the negative trend in the housing market might finally be slowing.
According to figures provided by Steinborn Inc. Real Estate's research department, home sales remain lower in 2009 compared to last year.
Through the end of May, 480 homes have sold, compared to 606 for the same time period in 2008.
The average price for a home sold in the first five months last year was $215,872.
This year, homes are selling on average for $187,694.
Real estate agents said one reason sales might be turning around is because first-time home buyers are taking advantage of incentives offered through the government's stimulus package.
