Donor Pays for K-9 Vests in Hobbs

Associated Press
HOBBS — The Hobbs Police Department isn't going to the dogs, not after an anonymous donor paid to purchase protective vests for three canine officers.
Police spokesman Mike Stone said an area resident made the donation. The vests will be worn by the department's Belgian Malinois dogs: Alex, Bach and Denis.
Each vest costs $759 and will give the dogs added protection during tactical situations.
Officer Stan Jordan, who is Bach's handler, welcomed the gesture. Although police would rather risk a dog's life than an officer's life, Jordan said, "You don't want to see your dog hurt."
Police in Hobbs often use the dogs to search buildings where a dangerous subject could be hiding. Jordan said having the vest means the canine officers "have a better chance of coming out OK."
