Grassfire Burns an Estimated 1,000 Acres Near Capitan

CAPITAN Strong winds are driving a fire that has burned an estimated 1,000 acres of grass in south-central New Mexico.
State Forestry Division spokesman Dan Ware said the blaze was reported at 11:30 a.m. today about 30 miles northeast of Capitan. The fire was burning on private and U.S. Bureau of Land Management land.
No structures are threatened.
Forestry Division crews along with firefighters from the Corona Fire Department and area volunteer fire agencies are tackling the blaze.
Ware said the cause is not known.
