Woman Charged in Death at Alamogordo Motel

    ALAMOGORDO — A 49-year-old woman has been charged with capital murder in the stabbing death of her daughter-in-law at an Alamogordo motel.
    Graciela Guerra was arraigned Friday and ordered held on a $1 million bond.
    Guerra was arrested Tuesday after authorities searched the motel room and found her with blood on her hands, face and jeans. The body of 27-year-old Brenda Guerra was found inside the motel room several hours after a court hearing over divorce proceedings involving the elder Guerra's son.
    According to court documents, Christian Guerra told police he and his wife argued several times on Tuesday and he "vented to his mother.'' That afternoon, Graciela Guerra told her son she was "going to fix it for you,'' and he told police he feared for his wife's safety, court documents state.
    When Graciela Guerra arrived at the motel room, she fought physically with Brenda Guerra. Christian Guerra tried to intervene, but told police his mother took a knife from her purse and stabbed his wife in the abdomen, according to court documents.
    District Attorney Scott Key said the investigation is ongoing "in order to attempt to find the truth of the whole situation.''
