MELROSE The village of Melrose's lone law enforcement officer is resigning.
Police Chief Lee Ferguson said he accepted a position with the Parmer County Sheriff's Department in Texas. His last day as chief will be April 25.
"I just feel like it's time to further my career and go on to greener pastures," he told the Clovis News Journal on Wednesday.
Ferguson had been with the police department for three years and served as chief for a year. Mayor Lance Pyle said other law enforcement officers have expressed interest in the chief's job.
Nearby in Clovis, Police Chief Dan Blair announced he is resigning. His last day will be June 30.
Blair had been with the Clovis Police Department since July 1985 and took over as chief in September 2006.
