Dona Ana Man Arrested on Cockfighting Charge

       LAS CRUCES — A Dona Ana man faces one count of cockfighting after authorities responding to a complaint about dogs discovered what they said was a cockfighting ring.
    Dona Ana County animal control supervisor Curtis Childress says Juan Contreras-Perez has been charged with a misdemeanor first offense.
    Childress says officers found evidence of cockfighting, including blades and a cockfighting pit. He says it's believed cockfighting took place on the property as recently as two to three weeks ago.
    New Mexico outlawed cockfighting last year.
    Officers uncovered the alleged ring Wednesday after responding to the call about dogs and discovering about 60 live roosters and hens.
