Jury Convicts Man of Murder in Las Cruces

Associated Press

LAS CRUCES — A Las Cruces man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a teenager four years ago.
A state district court jury in Las Cruces also Friday convicted 25-year-old Frankie Telles of aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and conspiracy to tamper with evidence.
Police say 14-year-old Jorge Olivas of Las Cruces died Feb. 28, 2004 — the day after he was shot while walking home from a teen club in Las Cruces.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports the shooting was instigated when Telles and others yelled the name of a local gang from inside a vehicle and sped off but returned seconds later.
