Potash Miner Electrocuted at Work

      CARLSBAD — A sheriff's deputy says a break in electrical tape that exposed wires could have led to the death of a 38-year-old Potash miner near Carlsbad.
    Federal and state mine safety officials and the Eddy County Sheriff's Department are investigating the death of Intrepid Potash employee Jeffery Franklin.
    His body was found about 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mine east of Carlsbad.
    Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Zuniga says a preliminary investigation shows Franklin was working around a conduit that had electrical heating tape that may have come loose.
    Zuniga says Franklin may have inadvertently touched the exposed wire.
    Company officials say Franklin was a surface shift supervisor and had worked for the company for 15 years.
