'Breaking Bad' To Film Second Season in N.M.

       SANTA FE — The second season of AMC's drama series "Breaking Bad" begins filming in New Mexico next week, the governor's office has announced.
    The acclaimed series from creator and executive producer Vince Gilligan features Bryan Cranston as a high school chemistry teacher who turns to cooking methamphetamine as a way to provide money for his family after he is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
    The series, from Sony Pictures Television, will shoot its second season in and around Albuquerque from July 15 to December.
    The shows are slated to air in 2009.
    The second season will consist of 13 episodes, according to an announcement on AMC's web site. The first season was only seven episodes because of the writers' strike.
    Cranston, who appeared in "Little Miss Sunshine," was nominated for an Emmy in 2006 for his work as the father on the comedy series "Malcolm in the Middle."
    "Breaking Bad" also features Anna Gunn of "Deadwood" as the wife of Cranston's character, Walter White, and Aaron Paul of "Big Love" as the former student with whom White goes into the meth-selling business.
    About 175 local crew members will be hired for the production, according to Gov. Bill Richardson's office.
    Richardson has promoted the state as a filmmaking destination since he took office in 2003 and says more than 100 major film and television projects have been shot in the state since then.
