DWI Offender Fines To Pay for Farmington PD Radar

Associated Press
FARMINGTON — People convicted of drunken driving in the Farmington area will have a hand in helping police arrest future violators.
The San Juan County Victim Impact Panel purchased five radar devices totaling $11,000 for the Farmington Police Department.
The radar equipment was paid for by funds collected from convicted DWI offenders.
Victim Impact Panel coordinator Carol Kohler said they approached the police department with an offer to help.
The panel receives about $16,000 each year from offenders.
The new radar machines cost about $2,200 each. When installed, they will monitor speed and increase the number of contacts police make.
